Sonata Ke-lapan Belas

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010! (I know, i know, I'm freakingly late..)
I've decided that for my first post in 2010 that I'm going to attempt to translate a poem by the great William Shakespeare, 'Sonnet 18' or also known as 'Shall I compare thee to a summer'sday'. As I am a Malay, born, bred, and still residing in Malaysia, is it such a wonder that my attempt will be in 'Bahasa Malaysia'. :-P Please don't judge me based on this post, eventhough The Bard wrote this for a guy, I AM straight. I just love this sonnet's expression of feeling. I would like to express my grattitudes to Encik Baha /Firdaus Khadri /Badut @ http://kantamatabaha.blogspot.com/, for after reading his blog, inspires me to write this. Enjoy!

Sonata Ke-lapan belas

Perlukah musim panas dan kau dibandingkan?
Nyata kau lebih menarik dan sentiasa ada:
Bunga-bunga Mei senantiasa diganggu bayu yg menggoncangkan,
Dan musim panas hanya pinjaman sementara:

Kadangkala Sang Suria garang memancar,
Bahkan selalu juga awan melindungi;
Segala kecantikan kadangkala hilang serinya yang memekar,
Kerana nasib atau mungkin alam bertukar arah sendiri;

Tetapi cantikmu tidak akan pernah lupus,
Juga tidakkan hilang serimu itu;

So, what do you guys think about it? I know it's kinda stinks abit. But i tried to stay true to the rhyming patterns (ABAB CDCD EFEF GG), and it's just not possible with my level of both languages to maintain the meter (iambic pentameter, right?). Furthermore, I did this in like +-30 minutes. I just sincerely hopes that you guys will enjoy this as much as I do. Below, the real one by Bill.

SONNET 18

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.

Tik tok tik tok tik tok

Tik tok tik tok tik tok
Detik detik yang terus berdetik
Kesinambungan yang bersambungan

Huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh
Singkat nafasku mengejarmu
Huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh
Senantiasa aku terkebelakang
Ketinggalan

Ku kejar dan ku kejar
Yaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!
Engkau hanya di depan mata
Sesaat mata mengerdip
Lalu kau hilang
Tinggal kesanmu, mengherdik

280509 1640 Subway KJ

We congregate,
We waited,
And we stared
Silently into the abyss.

Screams of painful laughter
Emanating and filling
Each nooks of void,
Keeping us company.

We congregate,
We waited,
And we stared,
And we fell silently.

280509 1610 SubwayKJ

She moves freely,
With the gait of a dancer.
Working the stage,
Mesmerizing crowd that comes hither.

She draws applause,
Silent as they may be.
From appreciative eyes,
That longs for time to stay, in her glee.

HAPPY 24th BIRTHDAY!

Well, i know it's been so long since i last wrote anything on this blog of mine, but i'm just a tad bit occupied(yeah, keep telling urself that)... so since today is my 24th birthday, i thought i should write something just for the sake of it... got a couple of new poems that i will try to upload here when i actually managed to talk myself into it... and btw, as i'm not taking short semester, i'm now working part-time at Subway, Kelana Jaya... Been a month already since i started working... I love the place, the staffs are all friendly and in no time at all makes me feel at home... eventhough the work is tedious and not to mention tiring, but it is nonetheless exciting... yeah, yeah, yeah, what's so exciting about working at a fast-food chain... well, i guess the learning of new stuff and meeting different people and communicating with them had really broaden my horizon even if not by much... and i would say, an experience (no matter what they may be) will always help you grow as a person... the thing i love best about the place, is being able to write and say the word breast(turkey breast btw) without raising an eyebrow and saying the word six inches over and over again... i did catch a few customers' doing a double take tho'... LOL!
So, a very happy 24th birthday to me... and i can't wait to see my Nour el-Qalby... Miss u so much sayang!

Kempen topeng suara

Kempen kemanusiaan berbaur darah
Disampaikan silinder silinder besi
Menembusi, memecah dinding kerohanian
Bak bunga sakura gugur ke bumi
Lantas di injak

Topeng-topeng shayaathin
Muncul disana sini, mengomel, menghukum
Tetapi dimanakah resolusi, dimanakah kesudahan?
Kempen kemanusiaan berlangsung penuh gah
Terus menghimpit, menjarah

Tiba-tiba suara mula kedengaran
Di mana tinggal suara ini dahulu?
Tiada kempen, tiada tindakan?
Lumrah duniawi yang memedihkan nurani
Diikut pedih, diendah perih

Syabas kempen!
Syabas topeng-topeng!
Syabas suara!
Kerna membuktikan kamu itu manusia!

She...

She paced the walkways and corridors of the sickness and cure
A bundle of energy zapping here and there
Asking not for reprieve
Asking not to be relieved
A workhorse personified
It keeps her mind of things, i guess
Things that personally eating her resolve
Things like a daughter settling into life
A son with a streak of self-destruction
Another daughter whose facing her biggest crisis so far
A retired by complication husband's whine that she is too engrossed in works
Loans that are eroding her statement
Bit by bit chewing
Bit by bit grinding
Bit by bit compromising

I guess she found solace at the sickness and cure
The obstacles faced there seems less demeaning
An escapism you might say
A required escapism i would suggest
Knowing personally only a part of her problems
But somehow i think i understand
Somehow i can't put the blame on her
For wanting to run away even for a while is naturally human
As by being human she's loaded with the complications
